Out of the Office: Harmons of Draper

Today’s short journey brought me to Harmons of Draper. I’m a sucker for quick deli Chinese Food and Harmons is a much needed improvement over the local Smiths that is close to home. Harmons deli is quite amazing offering a variety of cuisines to choose from.

Ryan joined me today. We arrived right after noon and were greeted with many empty tables. We grabbed some grub from the Chinese section and headed upstairs to the cafe section. With my Macbook Pro and a full battery, an outlet isn’t the first thing I go looking for, however my recon was quite disappointing. I found one outlet on the south end of the eating area that is stashed behind what appears to be a china hutch of some sort. It’s far enough from the wall to be easily accessible, but it’s the only one I could find! Compared to the crowd that we ran into, I suppose that is still accessible.

The deli being down the stairs made it really convenient to grab another drink as the afternoon continued. Ry and I refueled once, and kept on cranking.

The ambiance is nice, but could be slightly better. There are some comfy chairs that you might find at Starbucks for example. However I couldn’t find outlets near them. The chairs at the regular tables are metal. I called them Cylon chairs as that’s what the high polish on them reminded me of. After 4 hours of sitting in them, they’re still quite comfortable. My biggest concern about the ambiance is the volume of the overhead music. It’s a tad too loud and a little too heavy. I know, “if it’s too loud, you’re too old”, but a slightly lesser known adage is, “if it’s too loud you can’t hear your client and close your deal”. I guess we’re okay as I was able to plan a kick off date for a project coming up next month.

I figured I would add a ranking to my OOO listings. I’d give Harmon’s in Draper

3/5 food selection
3/5 ambiance
1/5 power
3/5 Wifi (1.5Mbps d / .5 Mbps u)

Overall I’d give it a strong 3 out of 5 on my co-working scale.

If you have suggestions for co-working spaces or just round about town locations to check out in the Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties, make sure and leave me a comment.
