So long Blogotomy…

This March 26th will mark the 7th year that Blogotomy has been in existence. Some of you have followed it, some of you have no clue what I’m talking about.

Dating all the way back to the HDC days, I kept a .plan file which turned into a weblog. In an attempt to formalize it a bit I started working on what would eventually become blogotomy.com in 2003.

I started the project in 1999, writing ASP 2.0. It was quickly shelved as that was a turbulent time in my life. Webiness went by the way side, and I joined World Wide Packets, I bought a home, and I got married! Great times, but not times to be focusing on my own blogging engine, if it could’ve been called such a thing.

In 2002-2003 I was investigating Enterprise Java and decided to teach myself the ins and outs. The best way that I find to take on such a task is to start a project. I downloaded a copy of Apache Tomcat and started digging into the docs. I opted to go with webmacro for my templating engine, and within a couple of days I had the beginnings of a website.

blogotomy ended up having a few dozen users, mostly made up of local friends and those from the HDC days.

It was almost shut down a few years ago, but a buddy of mine in the UK asked to take it over. I kept the domain, but have since pointed it to his server where it stays today.

Now I’m on to Tumblr. I’ve really liked what I’ve seen of it so far, and as my needs are far less ambitious for my personal blog these days, I think it’s the right time to migrate.

My old posts can still be perused at blogotomy.com but all new posts will be posted here. I’m excited to blog again. I’ve taken a few months (years?) off. I’ve got lots to write about now though, especially my commentary about starting a business, managing customer relationships, writing software for mobile platforms, and our unique business model at Protoven.

So welcome to the new, welcome back/great to see you, to the old, and I hope you’ll like what you read here.
