Out of the Office: Barnes & Noble of Sandy

I get stir crazy working at home alone all the time, so I try and venture out a couple of times during the week. I have a Verizon Mifi that really opens up the possibilities and makes any locale I might choose wifi enabled. No the speeds aren’t stupendous, but the coverage is. I often end up, like today, at locations that offer free wifi. The speed of the bandwidth offered isn’t anything to write home about either. Most free wifi spots I frequent can’t sustain a stream from pandora or soma.fm to it’s not a huge deal anyway.

Today is the 15th, which means it is time to invoice for work done the first half of the month. I find that getting out, especially on invoice day allows me to grab a drink (decaf of course) and stay motivated to get the invoices finished, exported to PDF, and sent to great customers.

Also on the docket this morning is finishing up some new features for a django project we’ve been working on for a couple of years. In fact this project was our first venture into django, and we’re happy to still be working with it today. We’re also grateful to this customer for sticking with us through the part-time to full-time transition. (They were VERY PLEASED to hear we’d made the jump and could support them even more.)

A little more info about this project for those who might be interested. The customer is a datacenter, so you might have guessed, we don’t host this project out on Slicehost like we do the majority of our customers. We have built them an Intranet application that helps to track inventory and resource usage. I really like this space and enjoy building tools for these folks. I’m even working on some of my own projects in this space now that I’ve learned a bit more about it. More on that to come.
